Democratic Female Pol: Joe Biden Smelled My Dry-Shampooed Hair

March 30, 2019

A female politician who unsuccessfully ran for lieutenant governor of Nevada in 2014 says then-Vice President Joe Biden approached her from behind, smelled her hair, and planted a slow kiss on her head.

Lucy Flores, now 39, a Democrat and a former member of the Nevada State Assembly, was waiting to speak at a pre-election rally attended by Biden when the incident occurred, she writes in TheCut.com, a fashion blog published by New York magazine.

Flores hadn’t washed her hair the morning of Saturday, November 1, 2014, three days before election day, because she “was exhausted and short on time.” Instead:  “I sprayed some dry shampoo in my hair, raced off to the Reno airport, and flew back to Las Vegas.”

Biden was there to boost her candidacy. His staff had contacted her to offer help, and she was grateful for it.

Here’s how she describes what happened while waiting to speak at the rally:

As I was taking deep breaths and preparing myself to make my case to the crowd, I felt two hands on my shoulders. I froze. “Why is the vice-president of the United States touching me?”

I felt him get closer to me from behind. He leaned further in and inhaled my hair. I was mortified. I thought to myself, “I didn’t wash my hair today and the vice-president of the United States is smelling it. … Why is the vice-president of the United States smelling my hair?” He proceeded to plant a big slow kiss on the back of my head.

A spokesman for Biden, who is considering a run for president, declined comment, according to New York magazine.

Biden has engaged in odd behavior with women in public over the years, as a February 2015 article in The Daily Beast points out, along with another one from around the same time in The New York Daily News.
