Nice job, Republicans. We, as Americans, gave you a mandate to repeal and replace Obamacare. You failed at that. But apparently it’s because you’re too busy worrying about making sure veterans don’t smoke pot.
Un. Freaking. Real.
Idiots.
That’s right. Republican lawmakers have blocked a vote on a bill that would have allowed doctors at the VA to recommend medical marijuana as a pain treatment in states where the drug is legal.
It was called “Veterans Equal Access.” But the House Rules Committee decided to block a vote on it.
Now listen … everyone that follows me knows that I’m obnoxiously conservative.
But when it comes to medical marijuana, I’m not.
Before my fellow conservatives come down on me, let me school you a bit.
My agency has done extensive work in medical marijuana. And do you want to know what I’ve seen?
I’ve met a veteran who did two tours in Iraq and watched children die before his very eyes. When he returned, he suffered from terrible PTSD. In his nightmares, he watched his own children be slaughtered by ISIS. Every night. Again and again.
He also suffered from tremendous pain from injuries he sustained while fighting for our country.
So he was loaded up with opioids. Became addicted. Lost himself and almost his family … along with his lifesavings. Almost took his own life.
Want to know what saved him?
Medical marijuana.
I met another veteran dying of stage four pancreatic cancer. He was on 19 different pharmaceuticals and his family was exhausting every penny of their savings trying to provide a measure of relief to a man who didn’t even recognize them because of the drugs.
Want to know what gave him TRUE comfort and peace in his final days … and a bit of savings for his family?
Medical marijuana.
You think that makes me a bad guy? You think I’m un-American for thinking we should do right by our veterans? Kiss my patriotic behind. I couldn’t care less what you think. I think our veterans deserve better than this junk.
Do I want to see it legalized recreationally? No. I think many Americans are lazy enough and stupid enough and don’t need pot.
Ironically, they’re almost as stupid as the Republican lawmakers who are worried about “the wacky weed.”
But that’s not what we’re talking about here. We’re talking about MEDICAL treatment for VETERANS.
Don’t even get me started on the fact that you can’t have a medical marijuana card AND your permit for a gun.
THAT is illegal, but we’re not worried about the guy who will down a bottle of vodka then blow his brains out with his pistol because he’s suffering from PTSD that he couldn’t get treated thanks to a failing VA.
Sorry, RINOs. You’re on your own with this one. It’s time you start doing the job we voted you in to do.
Because those of us who actually voted for you are watching. And we’re NOT liking what we’re seeing.
