University Of Vermont Names Honors College After Patrick Leahy

May 22, 2023

The University of Vermont recently bestowed an honor on one of the state’s longtime politicians.

The school’s board of trustees unanimously voted to rename its honors college the Patrick Leahy Honors College.

“We do not assign names to our academic programs at UVM lightly or without deep consideration,” UVM President Suresh Garimella said Friday, May 19, according to VTDigger. “The Patrick Leahy Honors College will be the most prominent marker of this amazing leader’s legacy in perpetuity, and a site for our students to follow his remarkable example of learning, leadership, and service.”

Leahy, a Democrat, served as a U.S. senator from Vermont from 1975 to 2023.
