VIDEO: Dramatic Moment As Family, In Car, Flees CA Wildfire

November 9, 2018

A video posted on Brynn Parrott Chatfield’s Facebook page captures her family’s astonishing drive through flames to safety as a wildfire, called the Camp Fire, ravages her town of Paradise, CA.

CNN reports that at least 5 people have died and at least 1000 structures have been destroyed in the blaze. The network also reports that at one point the fire spread at the rate of “one football field every 3 seconds.”

GIZMODO reporter Matt Novak writes that the Camp Fire has burned over 20,000 acres and forced the evacuation of nearly 50,000 residents from the area in northern California where the fire is raging.

In the video, Chatfield can be heard praying for safety as the car passes through black ember-filled smoke as the blaze ravages both sides of the highway.

The fire is believed to have started around 6:30 Thursday morning in the Feather River Canyon, Novak reports.

In Chatfield’s description posted with her video, she wrote:

“I feel very vulnerable posting this but I feel I should. My hometown of Paradise is on fire. My family is evacuated and safe. Not all my friends are safe. It’s very surreal. Things always work out, but the unknown is a little scary.”
