November 20, 2018

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio and actors John Cusack and Danny Glover are among the prominent left-wingers expected to speak at a three-day conference in Burlington, Vermont.

The event, called “The Gathering,” is the inaugural conference of the Sanders Institute, which was founded by Jane O’Meara Sanders, the wife of U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders.

Immigration, universal health care, criminal justice, climate change, housing, labor, and Puerto Rico are on the agenda, among other items.

The institute’s web site describes the event as “A Gathering of Minds To Envision the World We Want.”

Actress Susan Sarandon, economist Jeffrey Sachs, professor Cornel West, author Naomi Klein, and Arab American Institute founder James Zogby, are on the speaker list, as are Bernie and Jane Sanders.

Carmen Yulin Cruz, the mayor of San Juan, Puerto Rico, is also expected to speak.

The conference is scheduled to run from Thursday, November 29 through Saturday, December 1.
