Hampshire College Won’t Accept Freshman Class for Fall 2019

February 1, 2019

The board of trustees of Hampshire College in Amherst, Massachusetts has decided not to accept a class of students for the fall of 2019, on the heels of a recent announcement by school officials that they are looking to merge with another school because of financial problems.

Instead, trustees on Friday, February 1 decided to accept about 60 students who were already admitted through the school’s early admission plan last school year but decided to take a gap year between high school and college, according to the Daily Hampshire Gazette.

Unhappy students chanted “Hampshire united will never be divided,” drowning out the chairman of the school’s board of trustees, according to the Daily Hampshire Gazette.

The college’s future is unclear.
