Only Five Massachusetts Members of Congress Backing Elizabeth Warren for President – If You Count Liz

Five of the 11 members of Congress from Massachusetts have endorsed U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-Cambridge) for president – meaning most of the state’s delegation have not.

MassLive published a tally on Wednesday, February 27, based on public statements and responses to inquiries.

In addition to Warren herself, endorsing Warren for president are U.S. Senator Ed Markey (D-Malden), U.S. Representative Jim McGovern (D-Worcester), U.S. Representative Lori Trahan (D-Westford), and U.S. Representative Joseph P. Kennedy III (D-Brookline).

Not endorsing Warren are U.S. Representative Stephen Lynch (D-South Boston), U.S. Representative Katherine Clark (D-Melrose), U.S. Representative Richard Neal (D-Springfield), U.S. Representative Seth Moulton (D-Salem), U.S. Representative Ayanna Pressley (D-Dorchester), and U.S. Representative Bill Keating (D-Bourne).

Both U.S. senators and all nine U.S. representatives in Massachusetts are Democrats.

Of the non-endorsers, Moulton is considering running for president himself.

Clark, who is a member of the Democratic leadership in the U.S. House, told MassLive she is “very excited about Sen. Warren’s candidacy,” even though she isn’t endorsing her.
