Privatizing Nursing Home Kitchen Sends Workers Fleeing

April 8, 2019

County commissioners in central New Hampshire have privatized the kitchen of a county-run nursing home, leading to resignations from workers who wanted to keep their zero-dollar health insurance premiums and inclusion in the state pension system.

County officials said they couldn’t keep up with the high turnover at Belknap County Nursing Home, and they prefer to let a private company take care of it.

The private company promised to retain existing staff.

In response, three people resigned, and another plans to leave Friday, April 12, according to the Laconia Daily Sun. The kitchen already had six openings.
