Vermont Public Transit To Roll Out Electric Buses

In March, Vermont’s public transit system will begin using electric-powered transit buses, the Associated Press reports.

Green Mountain Transit will roll out two electric buses in February. The point of them is to reduce carbon emissions and to reduce noise pollution on rides in Burlington.

“The arrival of the state’s first two electric buses marks an important milestone for our Net Zero Energy city response to the Climate Crisis in Burlington,” Burlington Mayor Miro Weinberger said in a statement. “These E-buses will be powered by BED’s 100 percent renewably-sourced electricity instead of fossil fuels and will improve air quality.”

The two buses and the charging stations that accompany them cost more than $2 million.

Even so, it has the backing of Republican Governor Phil Scott.

 “We know nearly half of the emissions that contribute to climate change come from the transportation sector, which is why efforts like this are so important,” Scott said, according to the Associated Press.
