Deval Patrick Wants United States To Go Carbon-Neutral by 2040

Former Massachusetts governor and current Democratic presidential candidate Deval Patrick has introduced a new climate plan calling for the United States to become carbon-neutral by 2040.

A longshot candidate, Patrick released his “Addressing the Climate Crisis” plan Friday, January 31.

According to UPI, Patrick’s plan calls for ending subsidies to fossil fuel companies and quadrupling spending on renewable energy research and development.

 “As president, I will treat the climate crisis with the urgency it demands from the first day forward, as a matter of both domestic and international leadership,” Patrick said, according to UPI. “I will push immediately for major action, including a mix of incentives and new standards to rapidly catalyze a carbon-free future, as we work in collaboration with nations around the world to address the threat of global climate change.”

Patrick served as governor of Massachusetts from 2007 to 2015.

According to FiveThirtyEight, Patrick is polling at 1 percent in Massachusetts and below that in every other state.
