Weld Struggles In Tuesday Primaries

March 12, 2020

Former Massachusetts Governor Bill Weld did not win any of the six Republican primary and caucus states up for grabs earlier this week, nor did he make much of an impact.

For Republicans, six states voted on Tuesday, March 10, and Weld exceeded 1 percent of the vote in only one of the four states where he was on the ballot, as USA Today reports.

Weld’s best performance came in Idaho, where he earned 2.1 percent of the vote. Trump won the state with 94.5 percent support.

In states like Missouri, Michigan, and Mississippi, Trump won overwhelmingly. In Mississippi, Weld got 0.9 percent of the vote compared to Trump’s 98.6 percent. In Michigan, Weld got 0.9 percent while Trump ended up with 93.7 percent. And in Missouri, Weld got 0.7 percent of the vote as Trump got 96.8 percent.

Washington also held its Republican primary this week, as did North Dakota, but Trump was the only name on the ballot.
