UConn Cancels Football Season

At the University of Connecticut, there will not be a football season this upcoming fall.

The Huskies, a Division 1 team coming off a 2-10 season, made the announcement in a statement posted to the school’s web site on Wednesday, August 5.

“After receiving guidance from state and public health officials and consulting with football student-athletes, we’ve decided that we will not compete on the gridiron this season,” director of athletics David Benedict said in a statement. “The safety challenges created by COVID-19 place our football student-athletes at an unacceptable level of risk.”

UConn’s football team was supposed to play an independent schedule this fall while other sports teams at the school were set to play in the Big East.
