Gina Raimondo Shuts Down U.S. Health and Human Services Rumors

Could Rhode Island Democratic governor Gina Raimondo serve as secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services under a President-elect Joe Biden?

No, she says.

“I realize that rumors are rampant, and yesterday there was a lot of speculation about me being considered to become the secretary of health and human services, and I did want to address that honestly with you,” she said, according to The Providence Journal.

She said she won’t take the job.

Initially, Raimondo endorsed former New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg in the 2020 Democratic primary.
 
The 49-year-old has served as governor of Rhode Island since 2015. Before that, she served as Rhode Island’s general treasurer.
