Charlie Baker Defends Decision To Not Prioritize Vaccinating People 65 to 74

February 11, 2021

Can people ages 65 to 74 in Massachusetts receive the coronavirus vaccine yet?

No. Anyone are not deemed an essential worker by state officials must must be 75 or older to receive the vaccine based on age alone.

It’s a decision Governor Charlie Baker tried to defend during a press conference on Wednesday, February 10.

“I’m not going to put a number on it,” Baker said, according to NBC Boston. “The main reason is I don’t want to get it wrong. The biggest driver in this is going to be how quickly the 75-plus community can get to the point where we’ve vaccinated enough of them to be comfortable that if we open it up to another very big group, that if you’re 75 or older you’ll still have the ability to maybe get vaccinated.”
