Charlie Baker May Run For A Third Term, Former State House Reporter Says

August 25, 2021

Will Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker run for a third term?

Frank Phillips, the former State House bureau chief for The Boston Globe, tweeted that it seems more likely now than it did in the past.

“Gov. Baker insiders more convinced he’s running for third term. He’s asking them to put some campaign infrastructure together,” Phillips wrote. “A lot smiles, they keep their jobs.”

Thus far, there are two Republicans running for governor:  former state representative Geoff Diehl (R-Whitman), and Darius Mitchell of Lowell, a former city council candidate. There has been speculation that lieutenant governor Karyn Politon will run for governor if Baker does not.
