Four New Hampshire Fairs Cancelled Because of Coronavirus — But Some Are Hanging In There

April 24, 2020

In New Hampshire, several fairs will not be taking place as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

As WMUR-TV Channel 9 in Manchester reports, the Stratham, Sandwich, Cheshire, and Lancaster fairs are all now canceled because of the virus.

The fairs in question usually take place during the mid-to-late summer or early fall.

The Stratham Fair typically takes place in July and draws between 15,000 to 18,000 people.

“It’s the largest fund raiser for the Stratham Fire Department and the community does look forward to it, as do we all, but again this year, it’s probably a time to take pause,” Stratham Fair director John Cushing told WMUR.

The fair plans to return in 2021.

According to the New Hampshire Association of Fairs and Expositions, there were initially 11 fairs set to take place in the Granite State in 2020. Seven have yet to cancel their events.
