Illegal Immigrants Now Able To Get College Financial Aid Form From Massachusetts State Government

March 18, 2024

State financial aid forms in English and Spanish are now available to students in the country illegally who attending or planning to attend public or private colleges in Massachusetts.

“We are taking quite a bit of care to make certain that if a student starts an application and does not complete it for any reason, we reach out to them and offer assistance,” said Clantha McCurdy, senior deputy commissioner for access and student financial assistance at the Massachusetts Department of Higher Education, according to State House News Service.

The Massachusetts Application for State Financial Aid – known as MAFSA – became available in early March 2024. The deadline for applying for money for the 2024-2025 school year is May 1.

More than $300 million in state financial aid is available this year, McCurdy said, according to State House News Service.

On November 15, 2023, Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey’s office issued a press release noting that the state’s fiscal year 2024 budget has money “to support ongoing financial aid policies and to implement Massachusetts’s new tuition equity law, which allows qualifying non-U.S. citizens, namely undocumented students, who have completed high school to access state financial aid.”
