Massachusetts Governor’s Office To Re-Open Certain State Contracts To Increase ‘Diversity’ of Vendors

January 16, 2024

Governor Maura Healey’s office has announced it is re-opening certain unspecified state contracts in hopes of increasing the diversity of vendors based on race and sexual orientation, among other things.

“Our administration applies an equity lens to everything we do – and that includes the process to award state contracts. We’re proud to be taking this step to reopen contracts that can provide more opportunities for diverse and smallbusinesses to compete,” Healey said Monday, according to a press release from the governor’s office.

The state’s Supplier Diversity Office certifies businesses as “diverse” based on the owner’s race, sex (meaning whether the owner is a woman), sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, and veteran status (including whether the owner is disabled because of military service).

Healey made the announcement during the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Breakfast at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center in South Boston on Monday, January 15, according to the press release.
