Winner of Boston Mayoral Race Will Take Office In November

September 28, 2021

The Boston mayoral election will take place on November 2, but when will the new mayor take power?

That will happen two weeks later, according to The Dorchester Reporter. The transition of mayoral power from acting Mayor Kim Janey to the winner of the election will take place on November 16. Janey, who is the city council president, has served as the city’s acting mayor since March 24.

The two candidates running for mayor are both at-large city councilors:  Annissa Essaibi George and Michelle Wu. Both are pro-abortion Democrats.

Whoever wins the race will be the first elected woman mayor of Boston.
