Charlie Baker Signs Sports Betting Bill Into Law

August 10, 2022

Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker signed a bill into law Wednesday that will legalize sports betting in the Commonwealth.

Baker signed H.5164, which legalizes professional and college sports betting, as MassLive reports.

The bill will not allow people to bet on schools that are Massachusetts, except for NCAA tournament play.

Supporters of legalized sports betting point to the revenue they think it will gain for the state; they also argue that people will bet illegally if not given a legal option.

Opponwnts of legalized sports betting say that it will result in more gambling addiction in the Commonwealth and more working-class people losing money.
