Maura Healey Backs Physician-Assisted Suicide

April 1, 2022

If Massachusetts attorney general Maura Healey is the next governor of the Commonwealth, physician-assisted suicide could become legal.

The Democrat, who had never weighed in on the issue until this week, came out in favor of it in an interview with GBH Radio

“I think I am. ‘I’m certainly open to working with the medical community, patient advisory and advocacy groups, and partners in government to consider any changes to state law,” Healey said Thursday, March 31.

In 2012, there was a statewide ballot question that asked voters if they wanted to legalize physician-assisted suicide; however, the Bay State voted against it 51 percent to 49 percent.
