Michelle Wu Says She Wants Women’s Professional Soccer To Come To Boston

January 9, 2023

The National Women’s Soccer League is choosing between three cities, including Boston, to add a 14th team to the league.

Boston, Tampa, and San Francisco are the cities the league is looking at, and Boston mayor Michelle Wu says she would like to see women’s professional soccer in Boston.

“This is a city where we should have a professional women’s soccer team,” Wu said, according to The Bent Musket.

Wu said the city owns two sports stadiums that could accommodate a women’s professional soccer team:  White Stadium in Franklin Park (10,000 seat capacity) and Memorial Stadium in East Boston (4,300 seat capacity).

The National Women’s Soccer League plans to expand from 12 teams to 14 teams in the 2024 season; the other expansion franchise will most likely be in Utah.
