Robert DeLeo Spokesman (Somewhat) Denies Mister Speaker Is Leaving Massachusetts House

Is Massachusetts House Speaker Robert DeLeo leaving his post for a job at Northeastern University?

Some media outlets reported it, but the Winthrop Democrat’s office is refusing to confirm it.

A spokesman for DeLeo’s office told State House News Service:  “the Speaker has had no such talks with, much less does he have any agreement with, Northeastern University.”

DeLeo won re-election this past November and is the longest-serving speaker in the state’s history. He has served in the post since 2009.

If DeLeo leaves his post without a felony conviction, he will break the streak that included the previous three House Speakers:  Salvatore DiMasi, Thomas Finneran, and Charles Flaherty.
