Use Thin-Film Plastic Bags During Coronavirus Emergency, New Hampshire Governor Says

March 23, 2020

For safety purposes, New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu says it’s not a good idea to use reusable grocery bags during the coronavirus pandemic.

Over the weekend, the governor ordered New Hampshire businesses to use paper bags or thin-film plastic bags in hopes of stopping the transmission of coronavirus, the Associated Press reports.

“Our grocery store workers are on the front lines of COVID-19, working around the clock to keep New Hampshire families fed,” Sununu said in a written statement, according to the Associated Press. “With identified community transmission, it is important that shoppers keep their reusable bags at home given the potential risk to baggers, grocers and customers.”

Six New Hampshire residents had been hospitalized as a result of the virus as of this past weekend. No one had died of the disease in New Hampshire as of 5 p.m. Monday, March 23.
