MBTA eliminates honor box payment system

On July 6, the MBTA eliminated the honor box payment system and space numbers for all their parking lots. PayByPhone is a technology that allows customers to pay using any smart phone or internet-connected device.
PayByPhone is already in use by 75-percent of parking customers in “honor box lots” throughout the system. If customers choose not to sign up for PayByPhone, the MBTA will mail a monthly invoice to the address listed on the vehicle owner’s registration.
Subsequent reminder invoices and notices of non-payment are accompanied by a fine if the invoices remain unpaid for more than 30 days. Similar to All Electronic Tolling used on the Tobin Bridge, this payment system is licensed plate-based and eliminates the need to pay for the MBTA parking using cards.
Payments can be made by phone to 1-866-234-7275.
