LOS ANGELES (AP) — The Los Angeles Film Critics Association has named “Spotlight,” which chronicles The Boston Globe‘s Pulitzer Prize-winning investigation into the abuses of the Catholic Church, the best film of the year.
The critics’ group is known for often straying from the predictable awards season choices. This year they honored a wide range of films with their various awards, announced on Sunday. George Miller’s “Mad Max: Fury Road,” a best film runner-up, won the most, including best director and best cinematography. “Spotlight” also won best screenplay.
Best actor went to Michael Fassbender for “Steve Jobs” and best actress to Charlotte Rampling for the marital drama “45 Years.”
“Amy,” about the life of Amy Winehouse, was named best documentary, and Charlie Kaufman’s “Anomalisa” was chosen as the best animated film over “Inside Out.”
